ERA provided Phase I and II engineering services for the replacement of the Hart Road three-cell CMP culvert (SN 049-3077) with a single-span PPC I-girder superstructure (SN 049-3079) supported on integral abutments with steel piles. The project included 800-ft of roadway reconstruction to accommodate an 8-inch raise in the vertical profile to meet the hydraulic clearance for Flint Creek and 2,000-ft of resurfacing. The project also included the addition of a multi-use path on the east side extending from Barrington High School up to the Field of Dreams entrance along with cast-in-place soldier pile retaining walls for the approach and departure side of the on-structure pedestrian path. Aesthetic elements included ornamental railings and staining concrete formliner to produce a functional and aesthetically pleasing structure for the community. Extensive coordination was also required with the adjacent Village of Barrington creek restoration and bike path project to ensure the proposed improvements aligned with each other. Key environmental design elements included creating a low flow creek with embankments at the 2-year flow to reduce sedimentation within the creek. Environmental aspects also included wetlands, native seeding, vegetated river rock with wetland plugs, and cross vanes within the creek. This project won the 2022 APWA Project of the Year in the Transportation $5-25 million category.
