ERA completed the Value Engineering Study for the proposed single point urban diamond interchange at FAI 57 and Illinois Route 17. The proposed interchange will accommodate a future six lane section of FAI 57 in the ultimate condition and include reconstruction of the KB&S railroad overpass structure, and reconstruction of IL Route 17 from the North Fairmont Avenue intersection to the Eastgate Industrial Parkway intersection. The project also included a shared-use path along the south side of Il Route 17 and reconstruction of the sidewalks on the north side. The Value Engineering Study was focused on interchange geometrics to provide a more efficient type of interchange that would reduce the length of the FAI 57 structures (SN 046-0006 & 0007). Twelve recommendations and seven design suggestions were created resulting in design savings of $18 million.
