ERA completed Phase II engineering for the Rock River Heritage Trail project. The project established a regional connector from Lowden State Park to IL Route 83 along the Rock Island to Rockford corridor. This extensive initiative encompasses the design and construction of 1.6 miles of trail, addressing various aspects such as managing at-grade road crossings over North River Road, tree removals, installation of new drainage structures, grading and restoration within the State park. Compensatory storage areas have been created for trail sections with regulated floodplain and floodway limits. To ensure ADA compliance, meticulous planning was essential due to the presence of steep slopes in the park. The project obtained permits from IDNR-OWR, USACOE, Illinois Department of Transportation and the City of Oregon to adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines. Recognizing the significance of connectivity, ITEP funding was secured for both engineering and construction.
