Public participation was an integral part of the flood study. ERA created an website and online public survey where residents could describe flooding issues in their community and discuss their interest in green infrastructure as a means of flood mitigation.
|
ERA used a variety of methods to engage the public with the flood study with some methods proving to be more effective in terms of both the number of responses collected and the overall cost per response.
Facebook boosts, emails, and public outreach events proved to be effective for the Village of Northbrook, but other cities or villages might need to alter their approach according to the capacity of their population. ERA will help you determine which combination of approaches will work best for your project. |
The results from the survey provided valuable insight into public opinion in the Village of Northbrook and its unincorporated areas. The survey asked multiple quantitative and qualitative questions ther were analyzed to identify statistically significant correlations.
To the right is an example of a statistically significant correlation from the study that found that respondents who were interested in implementing green infrastructure as a method for flood mitigation were also more willing to invest in flood mitigation efforts overall. |
