At ERA, we believe that smart infrastructure planning goes hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship. That’s why we support and help coordinate Incidental Take Authorizations (ITAs) when projects intersect with the habitats of state-listed threatened or endangered species.

An ITA, issued by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), provides legal permission for the incidental (or unintentional) disturbance or "take" of protected species during construction or development. These permits are essential in ensuring that public and private projects can move forward while honoring conservation goals set by the Illinois Endangered Species Protection Act.

The ITA process ensures:

  • Projects remain compliant with state environmental regulations
  • Development plans are thoughtfully adapted to minimize ecological impact
  • Threatened and endangered species are identified, considered, and protected
  • Stakeholders and the public are informed and involved in conservation efforts

ERA collaborates with IDNR, biologists, and clients to identify potential species impacts early in the project lifecycle. When an ITA is required, we help with:

  • Environmental assessments
  • Impact minimization strategies
  • ITA permit applications and documentation
  • Public notice and comment coordination
  • Construction guidance to maintain compliance

ERA understands that our projects are a part of larger ecosystems. By integrating ITA practices into our design and construction phases, we protect native wildlife while building infrastructure that serves communities for generations.
